If the vanilla shake is the classic and chocolate is the indulgence, then Cookies and Cream is the fun-loving cousin of the milkshake world. It is the ultimate upgrade to the age-old tradition of dunking a chocolate cookie into a cold glass of milk.

The "Cookies and Cream Dream" isn't just about flavour; it's about the experience of texture. It’s that perfect moment when you get a smooth, velvety sip of vanilla followed by a satisfying, crunchy nugget of chocolate wafer. It is a fan favourite for a reason—it’s playful, nostalgic, and undeniably delicious.

The Secret is in the "Pulse"

The biggest mistake people make when crafting a cookies and cream shake is over-blending the cookies. If you throw the cookies in at the beginning and let the blender rip, you end up with a grey-coloured liquid. While it might taste fine, it loses that iconic "speckled" look and, more importantly, the crunch.

To achieve "Dream" status, you want to use the two-stage blending method. You blend your base until it's perfectly smooth, and only then do you add the cookies. By using the "pulse" setting, you break the cookies into varying sizes—from fine dust that flavours the cream to chunky pieces that require a spoon.

Choosing Your Cookie

While the classic chocolate sandwich cookie (like an Oreo) is the gold standard, don't be afraid to experiment. You want a cookie that has a dark, slightly bitter cocoa profile to contrast with the sweet vanilla ice cream. However, the "cream" filling of the cookie is actually your best friend here—it melts slightly into the shake, adding an extra layer of marshmallow-like sweetness that you can't get from syrup alone.

Recipe: The Cookies and Cream Dream

Ingredients:

  • The Base: 3 large scoops of premium vanilla bean ice cream.

  • The Liquid: 1/2 cup whole milk.

  • The Star: 5–6 chocolate sandwich cookies (plus extra for topping).

  • The Garnish: Whipped cream and one whole cookie for the "wow" factor.

Instructions:

  1. The Smooth Base: Add your milk and vanilla ice cream to the blender. Blend on high until the mixture is completely smooth and thick.

  2. The Cookie Drop: Take 4 of your cookies and break them in half by hand, dropping them into the blender.

  3. The "Pulse" Technique: Instead of hitting the "on" switch, hit the pulse button 3 to 5 times. You want to see visible chunks of cookie floating in the white cream.

  4. The Glass Prep: (Optional) If you want to be extra fancy, crush one cookie into fine dust and rim the edge of your glass with a little honey or syrup, then dip it into the cookie dust.

  5. Assemble: Pour the thick mixture into your glass.

  6. The Finishing Touch: Top with a massive swirl of whipped cream. Take your remaining cookies, crush them coarsely by hand, and sprinkle them over the top. Slide a whole cookie into the side of the whipped cream as a garnish.

Pro Tip: Use a "fat" straw! Standard straws will get clogged by the cookie chunks. If you don't have one, keep a long spoon nearby—this shake is practically a dessert you can eat.
